Old West Town

Although this “town” initially appears to be just another “touristy” stop along I-90, 1880 Town in Murdo, SD presents more authentic properties than many others who claim to do so.  It began in 1972, after a movie set was built by moving old buildings and gathering Indian relics and antiques together, and then abandoned.  The town has been enlarged through the years to provide visitors with a real sense of what living on the prairie was like.  Visitors can rent period costumes and take pictures throughout the town.

For movie fans, this is a gold mine of props from “Dances with Wolves” including tents, wagons, TeePees and rodeo fans can enjoy a museum honoring Casey Tibbs, a 9-time world champion rodeo cowboy.
